This copy is in good condition. Mild foxing, mainly on end pages, and faint yellowing of the pages in general. A stain along the top end of the board (see picture). Spine tight and text clear. Dust jacket in good condition. Chipping to the top edge and normal shelf wear.
The Story:
Set in England’s civil war, this period of England’s history is seen through the eyes of Sir Thomas Fairfax and his wife Anne. For three years she trailed in the wake of her husband as his exploits on the battlefield become legendary, and she coped with the less than comfortable and exhausting lifestyle so that she could be with her husband when he needed her. The vivid writing of the author conveys the essence of this blood thirsty period in England’s history. (fantastic fiction)
The Author:
Rosemary Sutcliff’s novels won much critical acclaim in her lifetime and since. The best-known of her Roman novels is The Eagle of the Ninth, and the related trilogy of which the second, The Lantern Bearers, was awarded the 1959 Carnegie Medal. Her re-telling of the legend of Tristan and Iseult was highly highly recommended for the same award in 1972, once the award was opened up for re-awarding to the same author. (amazon)
